The Shanghai Museum was established in 1952. It is located on people's square in Shanghai's city centre and is dedicated to the art of Ancient China. Everyone interested in cultural activities tourist can visit this unique place, which houses about 120 000 important historical artifacts.

The building itself is built according to Taoist traditions. The Museum is made in the form of a large square, which symbolizes the earth. And it is a spherical dome, symbolizing the sky.

Inside the building is divided into 4 floors. In total, the Museum has 3 exhibition halls and 11 galleries. Each room introduces the visitor with a certain kind of art of ancient China.

The Museum presents an impressive collection of bronzes. There are 400 of these exhibits. This metal is always particularly valued in China. By the way, here is one of three transparent mirrors of bronze Ming dynasty.

Shanghai Museum has a vast collection of ceramics and glassware. Some specimens still belong to the Neolithic period. In addition, the Museum houses a large number of pieces of jade which is considered in China as a symbol of wealth and always was particularly revered in this country.

Exhibited in galleries the best examples of Chinese painting and calligraphy, there is a hall with Chinese furniture of the highest quality, the Shanghai collection which is considered one of the best in the world.
