The ancient city of side is situated on a green picturesque Peninsula in the Mediterranean sea, is considered one of the main tourist centers of Turkey. The word "side" is translated from the Greek as "pomegranate - a symbol of fertility.
It is well known that side – this is a real example of a city-Museum under the open sky and the largest archaeological area of Turkey. To date, the very most valuable finds discovered in the area of this city in different time periods, are in the Museum of the city that is always ready to provide tourists with these amazing exhibits. A large number of the exhibits of the Museum were found in the years 1947-1967 during the excavation of this ancient city under the leadership of Arif mufid of Mancala.
Looking around the halls of the Museum of side, you should not hurry because in every room hides the charm and mystery of a certain era. When carrying out excavations on the territory side found reliefs, sarcophagi and Roman statues. Most of the statues, unfortunately, devoid of goals, because Christians were enemies of idolatry.
A unique part of the collection are baby and keeps the figure looking out of doors dog, the personification of the dead-hearted mother, butterflies and swallows – symbolic images of the children's innocent souls. Here you can also see a bronze statue of Artemis. Right hand the goddess takes out an arrow from the quiver, and the left hand holds the bow. Her hair is pulled back. Also represented the head of Apollo, made of white marble. Split in the middle of the forehead hair combed back wavy strands. The forehead of the statue is triangular in shape, the nose is quite wide, but the mouth is slightly open. The rear part of the head broken off and lost.
In the first room of the Museum offers such unique exhibits as a gun-reliefs of the Hellenistic period, the altar of the Roman period and a sundial. In the second room are exposed the torsos of the Roman period. In the third hall there are amphorae, statues, bas-reliefs, inscriptions of the Hellenistic period, and in the fourth - tombs, statues, Athena, Hermes, Hygieia, Apollo, Nike, portraits and torsos.
To our days in side preserved remains of the amphitheater at sixteen thousand spectators, the statue of the Emperor Vespasian, the temple of Fortune, the Agora, the fountain, the Roman baths (which at the moment is an archaeological Museum), the aqueduct and the necropolis.
