Castle in Pigs is located in the district Jaworski and is the oldest castle in Lower Silesia and the oldest of the Duke's castle in this area of modern Poland.
Legend tells of a Czech knight who killed the boar, thus protecting the Queen libuše. In gratitude, the knight received the bride and of the earth, where he built a castle. It is believed that the construction of the castle began in 760 year, however, documentary evidence of this fact exists. The first documentary mention dates from the year 1108 in the annals of Cosmas of Prague. In 1313 the castle was built the Church, which can be considered the oldest in Silesia.
The castle, situated on a hill, had a total area of about 18,000 sq. m. the oldest part of the castle is rectangular residential tower, built probably in the year 1300. On the West facade of the tower are still visible the remains of the Romanesque arched Windows. Gable roof made of shingles. Until our days are partially preserved geometric sgraffito, which is visible on the stair tower.
On the ground floor of the castle was made ballroom with wooden ceiling and ornate walls. The upper floors were divided into small spaces - today there are traces of walls and pieces of plaster.
Pig's castle is one of the few castles that survived almost all military campaigns and looting. The greatest damage was caused to the city by hurricane 1840, when they were broken roofs of all the towers and finally the fire of 1876, which destroyed the entire interior of the castle. In 1936 the roof of the building was tightly closed, the castle was preserved.
Since 1991, the castle is privately owned. July 5, 2008 was the day dedicated to the 900 anniversary of the castle and the village pig, with the participation of the population and the authorities.
