Teide national Park Photo: Teide national Park

About three million years ago a huge volcano, located near mount Teide, but much more of it, exploded and collapsed. The walls of the crater or what's left of them, formed a Caldera, which now are mount Teide and other volcanoes.

To the top of Teide you can climb by cable car. In strong winds the cable car is not running, and in high season (summer) there are queues. On top of the mountain a metal cross. In good weather the top you can see all the Islands, and even North Africa.

The road crosses the national Park from the South-West to North-East. Along the route many viewpoints where you can stop and admire the fabulous landscapes that once inspired the creators of science fiction films, who shot his paintings here.
