Mount Pantokrator Photo: Mount Pantokrator

Mount Pantokrator (in translation from Greek means "the Lord Almighty") is located in the North-East of the island of Corfu. Its height is 906 meters above sea level and is the highest mountain on the island. The top of the mountain offers stunning panoramic views of the entire island, but also in neighboring Albania. On clear Sunny days you can even see the coastline of Italy, despite the fact that she is from the island of Corfu at a distance of 130 km.

On the top of the mountain is a small cozy cafe for tourists, where you can relax after lifting, and then have to explore the area and enjoy the spectacular panoramic views. There are telecommunication towers and an ancient monastery. The first religious structure was built on this place in 1347, but in 1537 the temple was destroyed for unknown reasons. The monastery of the Transfiguration, which we see today dates from about 1689, although the façade was built in the 19th century. In the Church you can see the magnificent frescoes.

Climb to the top of mount Pantokrator both on foot and by car. There are several Hiking trails, the most convenient of which lead to the monastery. The ascent is best to start from the village of Old Perica, which is the oldest village on the island and traces its history back to the 14th century. Hike will take about two hours. When traveling by car it is worth considering that the road is very narrow and has many sharp turns.
