The national Park of Wadi Voria is a world famous nature reserve in the Emirate of Fujairah. This water valley, nestled among the rocks, is one of the few sources of fresh water in the country that meets all the standards and is suitable for drinking. Since 2009 the whole Park, with a total area of 127 sq km, with support from the world wildlife Fund is taken under state protection.
The nature of the Wadi Voria with their bodies, scattered among the rocky mountains, has become a real home for over 100 species of mammals and over 300 species of plants. Here you can freely see the Arabian tar under threat of extinction. Here still it is possible to meet the Arabian leopard and wild cat Caracal. Leopards and caracals previously exterminated by local farmers, as it was believed that they greatly reduced the stock of domestic goats and chickens. The water here is found the cave of freshwater ray-finned fish Garra barreimiae who live only in the mountains of the Hajar mountains. In addition, the Park of Wadi Buraya serves as a habitat unique to the UAE Orchid species Epipactis Veratrifolia.
The territory of the national nature reserve of Wadi Buraya also rich in archaeological sites, among which 29 heritage sites – old Islamic cemetery, petroglyphs and remains of ancient human settlements, Dating from the iron age. Sometimes the locals invade the territory of the Park, to collect medicinal plants, wild honey or fodder for livestock.
