Fiskardo Photo: Fiskardo

Fiskardo is a picturesque Greek town located on the Northern coast of the largest of the Ionian Islands of Kefalonia, approximately 32 km from Argostoli. The name of fiscardo and the Bay is at which is this small port city. During the summer period in the city's harbour moored multiple vessels, including luxury yachts and fishing boats. There is also regular ferry connections with the Islands of Ithaca and Lefkas.

Probably on the territory of modern Fiskardo in ancient times was the city of Panormos mentioned in the 5th century BC Greek historian Herodotus. This assumption is supported by some of the finds discovered in 2005 in the construction of shopping complex near the city's harbour. And at the end of 2006 during construction were found at the large tombstone of the Roman era. Among the valuable artifacts was a lot of gold jewellery, ceramics, glass and bronzes, coins and more. Not far from the burial excavated and well preserved theatre, the remains of houses, Roman baths. Discovered historic buildings and relics date back to 146 BC – 330 BC, is the modern name "Fiskardo" the city received during the Frankish domination. It is known that in the 18th century the town's harbour was an important economic value.

Fiscardo is one of the few settlements on the island which has remained virtually intact after the devastating earthquake in 1953. And today we can see many well-preserved Venetian buildings, which create a unique atmosphere and flavor of the Mediterranean town. Many excellent restaurants and cafés on the waterfront. Here you can not only relax and enjoy excellent Greek cuisine, but also enjoy the beautiful panoramic views of the neighbouring Islands of Ithaca and the white yachts in the port. Near the town are excellent pebble beaches with crystal clear water.
