The small Greek island of Patmos is located in the South-Eastern Aegean sea and is part of the archipelago of the Southern Sporades Islands (the Dodecanese). A few kilometers from the main port of the island the Rock is the capital of Patmos - Chora. This city traces its history back to the 12th century. The choir was built on the picturesque slopes of the hill that is crowned by the magnificent monastery of St. John the theologian. Traditional architecture, a maze of narrow streets with arched ceilings, whitewashed chapels and flower-filled courtyards create a unique atmosphere of the beautiful medieval town. The peak of the Choirs came in 16-18 centuries. The town has preserved a beautiful old mansions, indicating viability of the citizens of the Choirs of the era. Today in Choir many excellent restaurants, taverns and cafes where you can sample excellent Greek cuisine. There in the city and a good selection of hotels and comfortable apartments.
The monastery of Agios Ioannis Theologos is one of the main attractions not only Choirs, but also the entire island of Patmos. The monastery was founded in the late 11th century with the permission of the Byzantine Emperor Alexius Comnenus and impressive from the outside with its massive battlements. This Grand building is the most powerful fortification on the Islands of the Aegean sea. Near the monastery is the famous cave of the Apocalypse, where John the Evangelist wrote the book of Revelations known as the "Apocalypse". Also of considerable interest and attractions such as the Monastery of the Annunciation, the Church of Saint Fokas and St. Catherine and the house-Museum "Patmian".
