The house-Museum of the famous Spanish painter El Greco is located in the Jewish quarter of Toledo. An outstanding painter of the Renaissance, known for its original, unique manner of writing, was a native of Crete. At 35 years of age he entered the service of the king of Spain, later moved to Toledo, where he spent the remainder of his life. Here the artist has created most of his masterpieces.

The building, which today houses a Museum of the artist, is not really his house, as the real house where the artist lived, was destroyed in a fire. On the initiative of the Marquis de La VEGA-Silvio in the early 20th century restored building, built in the 16th century and located near the present home of the artist. There was reconstructed the house of the painter, as he was during his lifetime. Here were transferred personal belongings of the artist survived the fire, some furniture, and, of course, his outstanding paintings. The Museum opened its doors to visitors on 12 June 1911.

The idea of creating the Museum, promoted by prominent figures of the time, it was possible to save the masterpieces of the great master, is actively exported abroad and are widely purchased by collectors. Today in the Museum you can see these outstanding works of El Greco, "the Cry of St. Peter", "Apostleship", "San Bernardino" and many others. The Museum also exhibits the works of artists and sculptors of Spain 16-17 centuries, among which a special place is occupied by the paintings of pupil of El Greco, Luis Tristan.
