Alpine Botanical garden Photo: Alpine Botanical garden "Paradise"

Alpine Botanical garden "Paradise, founded in 1955, the year, is located in the national Park "Gran Paradiso in the Italian region of Val d'aosta. Its name he received because of Paradise lilies with delicate white flowers, growing in abundance in Alpine meadows and mountain pastures. A place for garden – Valenti – was not chosen by chance: situated at an altitude of 1700 meters above sea level, it has a relatively temperate climate, the special structure of soils and has the required number of Sunny days. A nice bonus is the majestic mountain of the Gran Paradiso in the background.

In 1964, the year next to the Botanical garden to conduct scientific studies of the local flora and fauna was founded mountain biological station, and in 1971, the year she became part of the scientific Department "of Paradisia". Then began work on the design of the garden and the creation of the herbarium and seed Bank.

Today in the "Paradisia" carefully recreated diverse mountain ecosystems with their characteristic flora – for example, wet areas, moraine and limestone detritus. There are over a thousand species of plants brought from different corners of the world. First of all, of course, this is typical of the Alpine and Apennine plants, but there are also species from other parts of Europe and mountainous ecosystems of Asia and the Americas. In addition, ten huge boulders, scattered around the garden, you can see a wonderful and quite rare collection of lichens. Within the school of tours you can also visit the herbarium, laboratory and small thematic library. And for the development of ecological and educational aspect of the Park in "Paradisio" we developed several thematic routes in recreated natural ecosystems (steppes, bogs, moraines, alder and t.d.). Each route is equipped with information boards. One of the thematic routes – "black" - runs through the Central part of the Botanical garden with its rock garden, and the second – "yellow" - introduces the outlying territories "of Paradisii". Here you can also see a collection of rocks, typical of Val Konya and visit the beautiful Butterfly Garden.
