Lithuanian born members of the family for over three hundred years was considered the most influential, powerful and rich rod. The genus members of the family belonged to the following personalities: cardinal Jurgis Radvila, great Queen Barbora Radelaide, several bishops, 37 Governor, who ruled the largest and most powerful territories, 22 official with special respect and honor. For over 166 years for the position of Governor of the city of Vilnius were the members of this dynasty. Makalou of Radiga Redhead predominated over the Lithuanian delegation at the Lublin Sejm.

During 16-17 centuries in the genus members of the family were more than a dozen palaces – and it is only in Vilnius. On the place where now is located the Palace, previously was located the Palace building, which belonged to the family members of the family. The construction of the new Palace was completed in the Palazzo style, namely in the image and likeness of Luxembourg Palace Paris.
The members of the family Palace was built in the 17th century in the Renaissance style Hetman of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Jonusas Radvila. The Palace was built in three floors designed by architect Ulrich. It has found its place two-story gallery with a variety of rich jewels. This Palace was considered the most beautiful in Vilnius until the 18th century.
But time passes, and as a result of frequent wars and fires during the 18th-19th centuries the Palace was almost completely destroyed. All that remains of the Palace members of the family, was transferred to Vilnius charitable society.
In 1967 he commenced the reconstruction of the Palace for his full recovery, but the building is not given in proper form even today.
But still part of the Palace of the great race survived. In 1990, restored and renewed parts of the building began its work, the branch of Lithuanian art Museum. The Museum hosts permanent exhibitions that illuminate the subtle development of Western art from the 16th century to the present day.
The collection of the Museum contains a rich collection of all the major schools of painting that gives an idea about the history of the outstanding development of European art, which dates back to the Italian Renaissance. Basically, the bulk of the collection consists of private collections that were donated to the art of Lithuanian society in the early 20th century.
After the Second world war the Museum's collection is largely increased due to the confiscation by order of Soviet authorities paintings that belonged to private persons, as well as the Church. The most important and outstanding values of the collection are paintings of the greatest masters such as Salvator Rosa, Goya, Jacob van Rasdal, Hobbema, Jacob, and engravings of dürer, Piranesi, Rembrandt.
The gallery has several works of legendary artists and the Russian school – Roerich, Levitan, Repin and other talented individuals. Considerable interest is a collection of works by little-known artists from Europe 16-19 centuries. That is what art allows us to take another look at the historical development of art in Western Europe.
In one hall hosted the exhibition, which is dedicated to former owners of the Palace – known Radvilos family. This exhibition includes 165 portraits of the entire family of noble members of the family. Portraits engraved by Hirsi Leibovich, who was known as a self-taught master.
