The St. John's Cathedral Photo: St. John's Cathedral

In the Świętojańska street is Warsaw's oldest Church - St. Jan, built at the turn of XIII-XIV centuries. In 1339 the papal court decided a dispute here between Poland and the Teutonic order. Here were crowned Stanislaw Leszczynski and Stanislaw August Poniatowski. Under the floor of the temple lie the remains of the Mazovian princes, noble citizens. Here is buried the Polish writer Henry Sienkiewicz. The temple has not survived, but was restored in 1963.
