The Tyszkiewicz Palace is one of the most important palaces in neoclassical style in Warsaw. Currently the Palace is owned by the Warsaw University, the building is a University Museum.

The Palace was built in the 18th century for the Lithuanian Hetman Ludwik Tyszkiewicz, who married Constance Poniatowski – niece of king Stanislaw August Poniatowski. Construction began in 1785 under the project of Polish architect Stanislav Zavadsky. Work on the construction of the Palace was heavily delayed, between the customer and the contractor had any arguments. As a result, from 1786 to finish a project commissioned Johann Christian Kamsetzer. On the decoration of the interior worked several specialists: Giuseppe Amadiyah, Johann Michael Graf, Josef Probst, andré Le Brun and Louis Kaufman.

In 1820, the Palace became the property of Anna Tyszkiewicz after her divorce from Alexander Potocki. In 1840, the Palace was acquired August Potocki, since then, the Palace remained in the possession of the Potocki family do year. In 1923, the family sold the building of the Agricultural Bank, it housed the Polish Academy of literature with a collection of manuscripts of the National library.

During the Second world war the Palace was burned, restoration work was carried out from 1949 to 1956. Entrance hall, staircase, dining room, billiard room and guest room received its initial appearance, the other rooms have been designed with the modern requirements.

Currently the Tyszkiewicz Palace is the property of the University of Warsaw, a Museum is located here.
