The Wroclaw zoo – the oldest and largest (by number of animals) zoo in Poland, founded in 1865. The zoo covers an area of 30 ha. In the zoo there are more than 7100 animals representing more than 850 species. The zoo is an accredited member of the European Association of zoos and aquaria (EAZA) and the world Association of zoos and aquariums (WAZA).

The idea of the construction of the zoo was owned by the mayor of Wroclaw Julius Elwanger, in 1862, began to collect the necessary funds. Most of the buildings in the garden were built by the architect Carl Schmidt in eclectic style. The opening of the zoo took place three years later, since then, the zoo has worked all the time, closing only twice: after the First world war in 1921-1927, and from April 1945 to July 18, 1948.

In 2007, winning the contest, the new Director of the zoo has been edited by Radoslaw Radomiak. He immediately started modernizing the garden for the purpose of improvement of living conditions of animals, and its development. Opened a new building for brown bears, island of lemurs and the butterfly house. In August of 2010 born at the zoo pygmy Hippo that was a real event of the year!

In April 2012, was built aquarium, import new rare species of animals. Currently in the Wroclaw zoo, home to more than 1,500 birds, 1700 reptiles, 2600 fish (108 species), more than 600 birds (154 species).
