The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was built in honor of Russian Emperor Alexander II, who died at the hands of the people. In laying the first stone on March 1, 1891, the day of the tenth anniversary of the death of the Emperor, attended by the Empress Maria Feodorovna. The consecration of the Cathedral took place on 4 December 1902 in the presence of Emperor Nicholas II, his family and entourage.

Bunk, with open galleries, Yalta Cathedral built in the old Russian style and adorned with numerous decorative elements: pilasters, kitsumi, portals, hearts, tent porch. Elegant look given by the white-pink hues. Near the Cathedral there was built a three-tiered bell tower, 11 bells which were cast in Moscow. The icons for the Cathedral were painted by masters from Mstera, Vladimir province.

The interior was decorated by architect kroshechkin, the iconostasis, the dome and the walls were painted by the Kiev artist Murashko. Mosaic with the image of the Saint on the outside of the temple was completed by pupils Venetian Salviati. The dome of the temple were covered with gold.

In 1938 the Church was closed, the bells sent to the smelter. In the Cathedral staged a sports club. In the postwar years, many times in the big Church holidays in the Cathedral served as St. Luke (Voyno-Yasenetsky), and the Dean, from the beginning of 50-ies, has been assigned a companion and friend, mitred Archpriest Mikhail Semeniuk. Worship, renewed during the great Patriotic war, has never since been interrupted.
