The Church Of St. Petra is a famous monument of the first Protestant Church in the city of Zurich after the reformation. It attracts tourists not only because it is the oldest Church of the city, but established in 1538 on the huge clock tower with the largest dial in Europe: 9M in diameter; the minute hand with a length of almost 4m.

Tower and previously had great importance for the city due to fire watchmen whose job was to watch from the room of the clock tower and regulate their work, as other town clock were focused on these. The tower was built in the 16th century, but the bells were hoisted on it only in the late 19th century. Bell played the role of a fire signal.

The Church was built in 1230 instead of the other two temples that stood there at 8 and 10 centuries. Initially, the architecture of the building was mostly late-Roman style. In the 15th century there were added elements of the Gothic style, later Baroque gallery. In the 18th century the Church was the first Protestant Church in Zurich. The Church in front of the stairs at the entrance to the temple is a wonderful little Park with lots of trees.

Rudolf Brun, first burgomaster of Zurich, was buried in this Church. Here also was buried Leo Yod is the friend of Zwingli, who helped him to translate the Bible. The famous writer and philosopher Johann Kaspar Lavater was lecturing here.

Today the Church of St. Peter is the little Church of the same community of the old town.
