Unique mansion on the square Gammel, located across from city Hall – the home of Jens Bang. This is one of the most visited buildings in the city, which is very popular among tourists due to its interesting history. The mansion was built in 1624 by the Dutch Renaissance style. The wealthy merchant Jens Bang built himself one of the most luxurious mansions, thereby confirming its status and condition.

The house is a five-storey stone building with a typically Dutch wavy Gables and red-tiled roof. The facade is decorated with original molded from Sandstone, the Central entrance is a small tower, which has a beautiful stone staircase.

Jens Bang wanted to become a member of the city Council, but the local nobles refused to satisfy the desire of the merchant, despite its financial viability. In retaliation Bang ordered to cut on the facade of his house that overlooked the town hall square, a small sculpture representing the head with his tongue hanging out. This scandalous trick gave no result, the merchant has not made to the city Council. Currently the sculpture is still in place and will continue to tease passers-by.

Over time, the house of Jens Bang was considered to be the largest Renaissance building in the Northern part of Europe. Today in the premises of the building hold official receptions, gala meeting. For over three hundred years on the first floor of the mansion operates the oldest pharmacy in Aalborg.
