Bridge gate is one of two extant gate tower on the outer defensive ring of free Imperial city of Aachen.

The construction of the gate began simultaneously with the construction of the second fortress wall and ended at about 1320. Ponttor had not only a defensive function. At different times in their history, they have served as a point for collecting taxes, the prison and the school premises.

The tower is a rectangular four-storey building with a hip roof sizes 18 to 14 meters. The passage inside the fortification of the fortress provide a four-metre arched gate, which is adjacent to the Barbican - additional fortification in front of the entrance to the tower.

By the end of the 19th century, the gate towers building is so dilapidated that it was decided to demolish it. Fortunately, this verdict was never implemented. On the contrary, in 1920, Bridge gate were restored and transferred for exposure to the city historical Museum.

As a result of the bombing by allied air stone masonry Bridge gate was severely damaged, and the Barbican completely destroyed. Since 1947 some time gate tower was used as a hostel for young people, and later referred to the Union pathfinders Germany". In 1973 the Barbican was built anew, and ponttor fully renovated and appear to us in its original form.
