The Rubens house, opened in 1946, is one of the most popular museums in Belgium. Famous painter Peter Rubens Powell lived in his own house and Studio, built in the Italian style, on the banks of the canal in Antwerp. The friendly owner took the talented Flemish painters, the French Queen Marie de Medici, the Duke of Buckingham and other famous people. Rubens was also an avid collector, who collected valuable paintings by Titian, Raphael, Jan baths Eyck, a large number of works of other artists, including his disciples.
After his death it was abandoned about 300 paintings, sculptures, coins, medals, precious stones, statuettes of ivory, as well as books and manuscripts. In 1939, the Rubens House was purchased by the administration of Antwerp, and the public to visit the Museum, furnished with authentic furniture of the XVII century and the works of the great artist, has kept the spirit of the time.
The most interesting exhibit of the Museum is the chair of Rubens with a gold inscription, belonging to the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke. Living room, located on the second floor, joined a small gallery with original fireplace of black marble. The walls are adorned with paintings of the painter – “the Annunciation” and “Moorish king”, and his teachers: Otto bath Sahajwalla, Cornelis de Vos and Jan Wildens. A garden with a pavilion in the style of a small ancient temple, depicts the master in the picture “Walk” in 1631, indicates a high artistic taste and remarkable personality of Rubens.
Rich creative collection of the artist is in many museums from Aachen to Zurich.
