In the Bulgarian town of Asenovgrad you can enjoy the local sights – the Church of the Holy Trinity. It was erected in 1853. According to historians, its construction is connected with the desire of the Bulgarians to have an Orthodox Church, in which divine service was held in the native Bulgarian language. In this regard, the Church of the Holy Trinity high hopes: for its construction has been spent a lot of effort and funds. But unfortunately, the temple remained in the hands of the Greeks to the early twentieth century.
The Church is a fairly large building – Basilica with three domes on the roof and a five-sided apse. Over a massive stone porch at the Western entrance stands a snow-white bell tower. She was built in 1938 by architect Bojana Cinkova. The architectural layout of the building, overall, is very similar to another city Basilica – the Church of St. George. Two rows of six columns with fine capitals divide the space of the Church into three naves.
From 1853 to 1857 Greek painters (at the time, the temple belonged to the Greeks) wrote the icons for the new Church. On the right side of the iconostasis is an icon of Jesus Christ, to the left is the icon of the Holy virgin. In 1866 there appeared the work of such masters of iconography, as G. Xafa, S. Andonova, etc.
For residents of Asenovgrad Church of the Holy Trinity is of great importance not only because it is a monument of architecture and history, but also because once this building housed the first Bulgarian school.
