Art Museum in the resort town of Atami is a private cultural institution. It was founded in 1982, the organization Mokichi Okada Assotiation (MOA) with the aim to perpetuate the cultural heritage of their spiritual leader and public figure, Mokichi Okada, who was born in the late nineteenth and died in the middle of the twentieth century. Members of the MOA are followers of Shinto.
Activity Mokichi Okada was very versatile – he contributed to the development of philosophy, medicine, agriculture and even the art of making bouquets. In addition, he collected various pieces of art and tried to make them accessible to everyone. The items of this collection are in the MOA Museum in Atami, and in the city Museum of art, Hakone. MOA also holds exhibitions of artists, educational events, provides assistance to talented artists and gifted children, participates in international cultural exchange.
The MOA Museum has a rich collection of works of national art, which includes items of ceramics, lacquer miniatures, xylography, samples of calligraphy, porcelain, sculpture. Many of the exhibits have the status of national treasure.
The Museum hosts performances and tea ceremonies are held for tourists.
Atami is famous for its warm springs, the city's symbol is a hot geyser coming out of the ground in the Park near the station. In 1923 because of the earthquake source water ceased to come to the surface, and had in 1962 to use the pumping technique, the source has scored again. Guests of the city also attracts the plum garden of 730 trees that bloom in December.
