One of the main architectural attractions of the city Balakovo is considered to be the mansion of the merchant Paisii Maltsev. The house, built in the eighties of the nineteenth century Saratov city architect F. I. SUSTEREN, is the main building of the estate. In addition to the mansion the house is situated a lilac garden, stables, Laundry, house for workers amenities building and the original fence with two cast gate.
In the early twentieth century, the mansion was added artistic elements on sketches by famous architect F. O. Shekhtel. Griffins in the gutter and propping up the attic amphorae, coat of arms in the Central part of the upper frieze in the exterior, as well as angels, lilies, Laurel wreaths and cowherd boys with pipes in the interior gave the manor a luxurious look.
Paisius Mikhailovich Maltsev - Nikolaev merchant of the first Guild, millionaire, bibliophile and philanthropist. Despite the old believer faith, his donations were built Orthodox churches and the sanatorium Yessentuki for persons of Christian religion. A matter of life Maltsev was picking up a rare early printed and manuscript books, valuable icons and collection of paintings. Most valuable in Russia library P. M. Maltsev was distributed for the Museum of Moscow history Museum (valuable content) and Saratov State University.
In Soviet times, the mansion was occupied by the House of pioneers, and later the House of creativity. In our days the house is renovated and has acquired the status of a Museum "Estate of P. M. Maltsev". In Balakovo is also the mansion's younger brother P. M. Maltseva - Anisim Mikhailovich.
