The construction of the temple began in 1807 and was completed during the reign of king Rama III. Vihan this temple is the highest in Bangkok and famous for its paintings on the theme of Buddhist cosmology. Teak doors of the vihan are decorated with intricate carvings. Around the vihan are 156 Golden statues of the Buddha.

In the center of the temple is the eight-meter statue of Buddha. This is one of the largest surviving bronze statues of the era of the Kingdom of Sukhothai.

In the square before the temple stands high frame red – Saucing (Giant swing). They were used at the ceremony of thanks Shiva for the harvest of rice. Near the swing set pole and at the level of the crossbar of the swing secured a small bag of gold or silver coins. The brāhmaṇas, swinging on the giant swing (like Shiva swinging in Heaven), tried to grab the bag of coins.
