National Park Freycinet" is located 125 km from Hobart on the same Peninsula, named after French Navigator Louis de Freycinet on the East coast of Tasmania. On the border of the national Park is a small settlement Cols Bay, and the largest nearby city – Swansea. The Park was founded in 1916 and today it is the oldest national Park of Tasmania, along with the national Park "Mountain field".
The Park consists of rugged coastline and a closed Bay Weinglass, whose beaches have been repeatedly included in the top ten in the world. Famous objects in the Park are the rock formations of red and pink granite, as well as stretching in a series of jagged peaks, called "Danger".
Among the inhabitants of the Park you can find different kinds of opossums, flying squirrel, echidna, wombats, dwarf possums, floppy-eared rat, kangaroo rat and the long-nosed potoroo. Once a common species of these places was the Tasmanian devil, but today populations of these marsupials have decreased dramatically because of the little-known virus that kills animals. The Park is a Paradise for lovers of bird watching: the lucky ones are able to see white-bellied sea-eagles, soaring in height, or the huge Australian cormorant diving in the ocean waters in search of food.
Fans of active rest will find many options for yourself: you can go for a sightseeing walk in the perfect shape of the Bay Wingless or embark on a three day's journey on the Freycinet Peninsula, wander through the Friendly Beaches, which became part of the Park in 1992, swim in the crystal clear waters and wildlife of the Park.
