The Palace complex, called toplica, was built in the New Bar near the end of the nineteenth century and was the luxurious residence of son-in-law of the Montenegrin king Nikola I – Peter Karadjordjevic. The architectural ensemble includes the Big and Small palaces, two garden – winter and Botanical. Next to the Palace complex is a Park, along which stretches North to the city beach, which covers a large pebble.

Today the premises of the Big and Small palaces occupied by the different exhibition halls and city Museum. The Museum presents ethnographic, archaeological and historical collections of exhibits introducing visitors to the real history of Montenegro.

As the Bar is one of the key cities in the territory of little Montenegro, local history Museum here, accordingly, represents a diverse and rich exposure that reflect the long history of this country. In addition, Museum visitors are invited to explore the history of Virpazar is the oldest narrow gauge railway in the territory of Montenegro.
