The Church of St. John the Evangelist, located in the city of Barnaul on the street Shumakova is one of the biggest and most beautiful city's attractions.

The creation of this Orthodox community in Barnaul occurred in 1996 the Service was held in a temporary building. However, in 2003, the local authorities decided to build a stone Church. Funds for the construction of the Church were donated by the parishioners, residents and local entrepreneurs. The project was developed by priest Georgy Cragun, I. K. Timofeeva and Brave. Great consecration of the main temple altar in honor of the Apostle and Evangelist John the theologian was held in October 2009,

Two-storey stone building of the Church made in the style of Russian Orthodox architecture. The decoration of the Church are five Golden domes and many decorative items. The Church has three altars. The first altar was consecrated in the name of St. John the Evangelist, second – in honor of Prince Vladimir and Macarius, and the third in the name of Metropolitan Altai. The white facade of the Church looks very harmonious with the bright green roof. Near the temple you can see the high tower.

Special attention deserves the interior of the Church of St. John the Evangelist. It impresses with its magnificence and beauty. In the temple there is a huge number of shrines, especially revered is the main icon of John the theologian, written in Greece on mount Athos.

On the Church grounds, right on the place where was located the old temporary building, recently began construction work on the construction of another Church in the name of the slaughter of the innocents-martyrs from Herod killed.

Today St. John's is open every day to the faithful and tourists. In the Church is constantly crowded, but despite this, it is always very quiet and peaceful.
