Architectural reserve Dolen village is located in the Western Rhodopes, about 26 km from Gotse-Delchev and 128 kilometers from the center region of Blagoevgrad. Above the level of the sea coast of this Alpine village rises a little more than a kilometer.
The village was founded in the XVI century fleeing Bulgarians who did not want a violent way to accept Islam, so I was searching for housing a secluded place in the highlands.
In the period of National revival, which had at the beginning of the XVIII - the end of the nineteenth centuries, the Town prospered: the villagers grew tobacco, engaged in the manufacture of jewelry, cattle, freight and other things.
Examples of architecture that have been preserved in the village with the era of National revival, allowed in 1977 to declare Dolen architectural and historical reserve. To the conservation area today consists of 70 houses, each of which is a monument of culture on a national scale. For a typical dolensky homes characterized by protruding above the street the upper floors and carved wooden ceilings of the rooms.
Among d'alene area attractions include Church of St. Nikola, the construction of which was completed in 1834. To him the most interesting to explore the impressive iconostasis, as well as numerous unique icons. In addition, the village has several interesting features, such as the intersection of Cavalia, shopping street and Nikolovski spring.
