The first professional theater was established in Brest in August 1940. It was called the Brest regional Russian drama theatre, however, the war interrupted so brilliant theater season started.
Immediately after the liberation of Brest from fascist invaders, in October 1944 it was decided to create the Russian State youth drama theatre named after Lenin Komsomol of Belarus in Brest. In the difficult postwar years all had easy. The building of the Brest theatre was destroyed, artists huddled in a small one-storey house, located near the destroyed house. The auditorium was equipped with wooden benches and had a capacity of only 150 people. Artists, together with the inhabitants of Brest, restored the theater building. Artistic Director of the theater was a young talented Director Nicolai Mickiewicz.
In 1949 there was a Union of Brest and Mogilev theatre. We invited young artists from other theaters. This difficult collecting joined team Director and artistic Director Yuri Determination. The post-war repertoire appealed to the heroic military drama. On stage performances: "the Young guard" A. Fadeeva, "How the steel was tempered" N. Ostrovsky, Konstantin Zaslonov" A. Mouzon. The symbol of the young theatre was the play "the Brest fortress" on the play by Konstantin Gubarevich.
In the sixties came to the theater a lot of interesting, innovative filmmakers and actors, including, from 1964 to 1968 worked here puppet theatre, which later became a separate organization.
In 1989 he initiated the reconstruction of the theatre building, which lasted 7 years. In 1995, he held the Grand opening, after which was given a performance of "the Marriage of Figaro". At the same time the theatre was joined by a Symphony orchestra, and the theatre got the name of the Brest drama and music.
Since 1996, the theatre hosts the international theatre festival "Belaya Vezha", which brings together theatre companies from more than 20 countries.
