Brest Cathedral in the name of St. Simeon, the oldest Orthodox Church in Brest. It was founded on April 22, 1862. The ceremony was attended by over 10 thousand people. The construction was entrusted to the architect V. Polikarpov. November 8, 1865, was finalized procession of the Brest fortress in the new Cathedral in honor of his sanctification.

The Cathedral was decided to build instead of burned in 1815 wooden Church at St. Simeon monastery. In 1830-40, the city of Brest was moved in another place in connection with the construction of the fortress. For the temple was chosen the most beautiful and conspicuous from afar barren height.

Years, wars, revolutions and other adversity swept over the proud five-domed head of the Cathedral, built in Russian-Byzantine style, without causing it significant harm. Here at all authorities the service was held.

In 1980-90, the Church was thoroughly reconstructed and restored, with the result that contemporaries can see it in full splendor as it has been conceived by the founders in the nineteenth century. In 1997, 5 gilded domes, to replace the dilapidated, the Church gave the mayor of Moscow Yury Luzhkov. September 14, 2010 was made illumination of the temple. Now the Holy Simeon Cathedral is visible at any time of the day.

In 2005, the temple was a monument to Athanasius of Brest (1595-1648 years) – the Holy Martyr, who was Abbot of St. Simeon Brest monastery.

The Cathedral houses relics in the Orthodox Church: the particles of the relics of St. Martyr Athanasius, Abbot of Brest, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, St. Sergius of Radonezh, St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk, of St. innocent of Radonezh.
