The Church of St. Anthony of Padua Photo: Church of St. Anthony of Padua

The Church of St. Anthony is one of the few monuments remaining in Brest after being in Western Belarus poles. The Church was built in 1938 in the style of modern constructivism for the Polish military garrison stationed in Brest. In our minds, the Church and the style of constructivism is absolutely incompatible concepts, however, in Catholic Europe in the middle of the twentieth century in modern style were built many Catholic and Lutheran churches.

The patron of the Church Saint Anthony of Padua, was elected to the poles for a reason. This Saint was a long and arduous journey, becoming a recognized speaker, Teacher of the Catholic Church and the patron Saint for those who want to regain the lost value. The poles believed that included in the Russian Empire Brest have lost their Catholic values. In addition, the beginning of XX century was marked by the collapse of spiritual values and General moral decline.

During the Second World war, the Church of St. Anthony was selected by the German-fascist invaders and within its walls were held Lutheran services for the German military, so the Church is sometimes called a Lutheran Church.

After the liberation of Brest by Soviet troops, constructivist, St. Anthony's Church was closed and this religious building was transferred first to the needs of national cinematography (it was converted into a Movie House), and then he bought some modern advertising company. The government of the Republic of Belarus to return the Church to the Catholic Church, unfortunately, is not going to.
