The Royal Pavilion is a former Royal residence in Brighton, UK. The Palace was built as a seaside residence for George, Prince of Wales, the future king George IV. He first visited Brighton in 1783. Seaside resorts were in Vogue, the treatment of the waters was very popular among the English aristocracy, and Brighton has become famous thanks to the Duke of Cumberland, in the residence which at first and stayed the Prince. The doctors also recommended that Georg treatment of marine waters. Brighton served as a meeting place for George with his ladylove, Mrs. fitzherbert, to whom he was married secret marriage.

The first Pavilion was built in 1787 by the architect Henry Holland. Then the building was rebuilt and expanded, and in 1815-1822, the famous architect John Nash completely rebuilds the Palace in exotic Indo-Saracenic style. The interior of the Palace is also decorated in an Oriental style mixed Chinese, Indian and other ethnic motifs.

The Palace looks very unusual, and only in starchy Brighton, dominated by Georgian and Victorian styles, and all looks extremely exotic.

After the death of George IV king William IV also stayed in the Pavilion during his many visits to Brighton. His successor Queen Victoria disliked Brighton, and made his summer residence Isle of Wight. The Royal Pavilion was purchased by the city and was used for various formal meetings and events. During the Second world war the Pavilion was occupied by a hospital. After the war, the city authorities made great efforts to renovate and recreate what it was when George IV. Now the Pavilion is the main tourist attraction in Brighton.
