One of the most beautiful theaters in the world, the Hungarian state Opera house was opened in 1884 on andrássy Avenue. The author of the project of the building of the theatre – Hungarian architect miklós Ybl, a brilliant representative of pseudohistorical in European architecture, designed it in neo-Renaissance style, using Baroque ornaments, sculptures and paintings. Of particular interest is the wall painting inside the building, represented by the works of such masters as: Bertalan Seca, Mor tan and károly Lotz.

Hall theatre in the shape of a horseshoe has a capacity of 1261 places and ranks third in the world in their acoustics. Them in different periods of history were able to assess many great musicians including: Otto Klemperer, Bela Bartok, Lamberto Gardelli Yuejin Ferencik, Beniamino Gigli, Eva Marton and others. Twice put their Hungarian state Opera in Opera by Giacomo Puccini.

In front of the theater are monuments to the composer Franz Liszt and his first Director and Creator of the national anthem of Hungary Ferenc Erkel. In 1888-1891 Director of the Hungarian state Opera was the composer Gustav Mahler.

The theatre is also the main stage and for the Hungarian national ballet.
