St. Stephen's Basilica is named in honor of the first king of Hungary, istván (Stephen). The construction of the Cathedral began in 1848 under the direction of architect józsef hield. After his death the construction was directed by miklós Ybl. The building was completed in 1905 Along with the Parliament building, the Basilica is the tallest building in the city.
