The Church Of STS. Cyril and Methodius Photo: Church Of STS. Cyril and Methodius

Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius is one of the most interesting sights of the city of Bourgas. It is located in the heart of the city and Burgas is the biggest temple. The construction was started in 1895, and in 1907 she opened its doors for the Orthodox parishioners whose donations made possible the construction. On the creation of the project worked well-known Italian architect Ricardo Toscani.

The building area is 516 square feet (32 meters in length and 21 meters in width), to adjoin the two bell towers. The main entrance to the temple is decorated with a mosaic mural that depicts saints Cyril and Methodius, the creators of the Slavic alphabet. The Church building is also notable for an ornate facade and the stunning beauty of the dome. The interior of the Church may also be of interest to the visitor: it is decorated with malachite, marble and intricate frescoes, created by artists who worked on the decoration of the Church of Alexander Nevsky in Sofia. Here you can also see the carved wooden iconostasis of the wizard, the Marshlands Kochereshko (1930).

After the fire, which occurred in 1953, the decoration of the temple and many icons were damaged, however, to date, long-term restoration work already completed, and the Church for over 15 years open to visitors.
