Angel falls is the highest free-falling waterfall in the world. It is located in the highlands of Guyana in Venezuela, on the river Carrao, which is one of the tributaries of the Orinoco. From Spanish the name of the waterfall is translated as "angel".

Since ancient times the local Indian tribes called the waterfall Churun-Measure ("Waterfall of the deepest place"), and plateau, from which it falls – Auyan-Tepui, which translates as "mountain of the devil", because of the constant thick fog, which it is enveloped.

In 1910, the waterfall was discovered by the Spanish Explorer Ernesto Sanches La Cruz, but world famous thanks to American flyer and the gold digger Geims Crawford angel.

In 1949 to the waterfall was sent expedition of the National geographic community in the United States, which determined the basic parameters of the angel. And in 1993, UNESCO has made waterfall in the world heritage list of humanity. Now angel is located in the national Park Canaima and is considered the main attraction of Venezuela.

The waterfall is surrounded by tropical forests and special roads to it are not. Therefore, tourists are delivered to the angel through the air by plane or by water in a canoe with a motor. The most daring thrill seekers can jump off the edge of the plateau on the glider. The starting point for tours to the waterfall is a small village of Canaima. With the influx of tourists the town has changed, it has several resorts, restaurants and souvenir shops.
