Churches Of Kastoria Photo: The Church Of Kastoria

A characteristic feature of the city is the large number of Byzantine churches – more than 50. Many churches are monuments of history, such as the Church of Panagia Compiledate XI century. Its name comes from non-traditional high dome. In the Church of taxiarchis (XIII century), painted outside, buried a national hero Pavlos Molasses, fought with the Greeks and Bulgarians.

Many churches are quite small – it is the former house of the chapel. Most of them closed to the public, but it is interesting to see from the outside. Icons from churches are kept in the Byzantine Museum (sometimes referred to as Archaeological).
