Cove is a small port town in County cork. It is located on the southern coast of the Big island (the largest island in Korsky harbour) and is a popular tourist destination and a major cruise terminal, Ireland.
During its history the city has repeatedly changed its name. From about 1750, the year it was renamed "Queenstown" (in honor of Queen Victoria), and in 20-ies of the 20th century received its present name – Cov.
In the early 19th century during the Napoleonic wars Cov was important tactical center naval base for the British, which definitely served as a significant impetus for the development of the city. In 1841-1950-ies Cov became the starting point for almost 2, 5 million Irish immigrants (of 6) who emigrated to North America. Famous Cove and as the last port of the 11th April 1912 came the legendary ocean liner "Titanic" before you set out on his last journey, and as the burial place of more than 100 passengers with the infamous passenger liner "Lusitania, sunk by German submarine off the Irish coast in may 1915.
Today Cove incredibly cozy and beautiful town with rows of tightly squeezing together the colorful buildings, climbing up the slopes of the hill, winding streets and scenic waterfront. Most modern buildings the Cove were built in the 19th century popular in the Victorian times and is perfectly preserved to our days.
Among the most interesting sights Cova is, of course, be noted perched on top of a hill and dominating the city is the impressive neo-Gothic Cathedral of St Colman. Unique Carillon of the Cathedral has 49 bells and is unique in Ireland. To get acquainted with the history of the city, you can visit this waterfront heritage Centre, Cobh. However, Cov offers a lot of different ideas for Dating – boat trips (including a visit to spike island), fishing, sailing and other water sports, Golf, entertaining exhibitions and concerts at the Art center Sirius and much more.
Leaving the Cove and Big island, you will pass through the so-called FOTA island, where you should check out "wildlife Park" and also in FOTA house (once owned Earls of Barrymore) and his magnificent arboretum.
