Gallery Lewis Glucksmann, art gallery, cultural and educational centre in cork. The gallery is located on the campus of University College Cork, just 10 minutes ' walk from the city centre on Western road.
Gallery Lewis Glucksmann, was officially opened to the public on 14 October 2004. The gallery was designed by the talented Irish architects Sheila O'donnell and John Toomey and is a modern three-storey building area of 2000 square meters with well-equipped exhibition space, art studios and lecture halls. There is also a cosy restaurant and a shop.
In 2005, the Gallery Lewis Glucksmann, was named by the Royal Institute of architects of Ireland the "best public building in Ireland". The gallery has also been honored with such prestigious awards as the British Civic Trust Awards and prize of the Royal Institute of British architects, and was nominated for the Stirling prize. The name of the gallery was named in honor of his patron, Lewis Glucksmann is a successful American financier and philanthropist, generously supported various cultural and educational projects in Ireland.
The gallery collection is a superb collection of paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures and other objects of fine (visual) art. Much of the collection relates to contemporary Irish arts.
In addition to the permanent exhibition in the gallery of Lewis Glucksmann, regularly hosts temporary exhibitions as well as thematic lectures and seminars, film screenings and other cultural events. There is also a special program for students whose main goal is to broaden the Outlook of the younger generation and direct it to receive in the future of higher education.
