Cathedral of San Pedro – the oldest Church in Davao city, dedicated to the patron Saint of the city of the Apostle Peter, and in front of City Hall. The Church was built in 1847 during the Spanish colonization of the territory of the present Davao Don josé Oyanguren. Today it is considered one of the most beautiful churches built in that period. In this Church prayed for Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.
The most striking detail of the Church that fascinates everyone who sees it, is a perfectly preserved original carvings depicting various saints. In the right wing of the chapel of the Cathedral is preserved the ancient altar and statues of saints. Inside you can also see the beautiful image of the Apostle Peter or San Pedro. And amazing in the tower stored the image of the blessed virgin Mary and the Ten Commandments, as well as a statue of the virgin Mary with the body of Christ on her knees. Equally impressive and the updated part of the Cathedral, the architecture of which can, oddly enough, to see a Muslim character. Around him were several shops selling various religious items – candles, rosary beads, rosaries, prayer books, novenas and monastic shoulders.
The Cathedral of San Pedro is one of the few churches in the Philippines, which is under state protection as a national cultural asset. Interestingly, the recognition of no historical value to the Church, but rather its unique geographical position – it's one of the few Christian churches built in the traditionally Muslim region. On Sundays in the Cathedral of San Pedro for hundreds of thousands of the faithful to participate at mass, so part of the streets of San Pedro and Recto Avenue in front of the Cathedral usually overlap.
