The Sponza Palace is one of the architectural monuments of Dubrovnik. The Palace was built under the leadership Pascoe of Milicevic in the years 1516-1521. The building of the Palace built in the Gothic style with elements of style of the early Renaissance. In 1667, the Sponza Palace was seriously damaged because of the earthquake. Reconstruction lasted for 30 years.

Initially it was assumed that the Palace will be the residence of the Prince. Until 1808 the building of the Palace fulfilled this role when the French Marshal Auguste Marmont was eliminated Republican form of government in Dubrovnik.

In the times of the Republic the building was used, and for other purposes. At different times there were the Treasury, the customs, the school, the mint and the Bank. There were also the Academy of consonants", representing a collection of highly educated people and poets involved in the Sponza Palace scientific and literary discussion.

Today, in the Sponza Palace are the state archives and the municipal Museum, which contains a large amount of valuable from the point of view of history documents. Here is a monument to the Miho Paracatu, rich sailor, who bequeathed in the 17th century the state of the Republic. This is the only monument that was erected in the times of the Dubrovnik Republic.

The Sponza Palace is located on the left side of the area of the Lodge. Since 1950 in front of the Palace is held annually the Dubrovnik summer festival.
