Turkey, in terms of boating, has a large, and with it, a very peculiar potential. Rivers of Turkey feed mainly from rainfall and snowmelt. Hence, the peak of the flood occurred at the end of winter and beginning of spring. The perfect time to visit and the passage of rivers in the South of Turkey is the beginning of April. But as the amount of rain and snow is a fickle phenomenon, and the level of the rivers at the same time of year may vary drastically. For rivers in Northern and Eastern Turkey is the most opportune time for the alloy to early may.

The historic province of Tao-Klarjeti, once belonged to neighboring Georgia, is now in Turkey, so there are many monuments of ancient Georgian architecture.

Lake Tortum is also located in this territory, on the way to the Cathedral Ishani. The tortum Cellesi is a huge lake with a length of eight kilometers (five miles) and a width of one kilometer. Lake "cut" from all sides of the mountain cliffs, and was formed by a giant landslide that blocked the North exit from the valley. Most likely, this happened towards the end of the last Ice age, approximately 10,000 to 15,000 years ago, but some locals say that their ancestors still remember the events of the cataclysm, and are confident that the lake is not more than 250 years.

If you drive twelve miles to the North from the turn to Ask Bank on a secondary road, you can get to the Tortum waterfalls. Turkish Electric Company (FEC) has built an artificial dam with a turbine on the natural dam. When you see the hydroelectric power plant, then you need to turn onto the road marked "Tortum Selalesi". After another kilometer, you will see that big rock on the left with a 48-metre cascade. The spurs of the ranges Dietla, Exec and Kara, below the falls, clutching his arms, thereby narrowing valley and turning it into a beautiful canyon.

The road along the lake begins to gain altitude, and goes to a small local pass is 1150 m. from Here a wonderful view of the lake - like green water in the bowl of a grey-yellow layered rocks. The colors are all very contrasting. On the other side of the pass there is a Delta of the river, crashing into the sandy shore, and a long road, along the winding ribbon of the river.

Before the hydroelectric power plant there is a narrow road. It takes place in the Northern part of the lake, turns left and leads to the Tortum waterfalls Plaza, with breathtaking views. This waterfall drops from a height of fifty meters (164 feet) of water to small rapids below. The landslide that created the Tortum Goal also influenced the appearance of small Ozerets, surrounded by debris, which is countless trout. Falling water carries large masses of air, so in a crevice under a waterfall is always a strong damp wind.

Lake Tortum and Tortum waterfall attract thousands of tourists. It is best to go into this area in the spring, because in summer HPP takes for their needs almost all the water. During the season the lake is very popular and crowded place – fishing, paddle boat rentals, camp sites, during the summer silence and solitude.
