The mosque of Moulay Idriss is one of the oldest mosques of Fes. This mosque has been closed to non-Muslims. Until 2005, all the city were to move only the kuffar. The sanctity of Fes explained simply enough – here was buried the most revered Saint of the country and the founder of the first Arab city in Morocco - Moulay Idriss.
The mosque of Moulay Idriss was built in the IX century It is characterized by its simplicity and lack of decoration - such architecture principles adhered to during the time of its construction. The mosque is decorated with a high minaret, built in the late XIX century, the Main feature of the minaret is its cylindrical shape, while all the other minarets have the usual rectangular slice. The minaret is decorated with green Arabic inscriptions arranged along its circumference. The minaret stands out very nicely against white walls of the mosque of Moulay Idriss.
Non-Muslim tourists of faith are not permitted to enter inside the mosque, admire the beauty of the minaret and the mosque to them from outside. As the mausoleum of Sultan is located inside, access is also limited.
If lucky enough, we worship the yard could see through the open door. It is never empty. To bow to the Muslim Holy people come from all over the country. In the wall of the mausoleum was made of a special memorial plaque with a small hole, into which the faithful Muslims look to communicate with the soul of a Saint. They say that the water from the fountain, arranged in the wall of the mausoleum, has healing properties.
Beating around the mosque Moulay Idriss, tourists can admire the carved colored porches, beautiful wall tiles and carved decoration that adorns each door of the mosque.
