Lekarskie gorge – one of the most amazing natural and historical sites of Old Gagra. The gorge is located in the Western part of the city, near Gagra fortress. Its length is very large: from Gagarin square to the source of the river Gaekwar that high in the mountains.

Lekarskie gorge was named after a mountain river Laquari. With the Abkhazian language its name means "springs 12". During ethnographic studies were found leading to the ancient gorge trail. Most likely, it is for these paths in ancient times was moving up and down Caucasian "Spartans" (the nationality of the Ubykhs).

Fortress Abaata, which was situated near the gorge, constantly raided by the highlanders.
