It is the oldest Museum in Austria. It was founded in 1811 by Archduke Johann. The Museum collection is located in several buildings in the city.
The most interesting exposition (Old gallery) is housed in the Palace of Admont – painting Cranach, Brueghel and Styrian artists of the XVII-XVIII centuries. New gallery housed in the Palace Herbershtayn and provides for examination of paintings, drawings, sculpture of the XIX-XX centuries. In the castle Eggenberg is a collection of coins and medals.
