The Church Of St. Mikhail Photo: Church Of St. Mikhail

The temple of Archangel Michael is located in the Old town, on its upper square of Duke Stefan. Informally, this area is called Bellavista, as it offers scenic views of the Bay. The Church is surrounded by four palm trees in the square before the Church is a fountain and a cafe.

The construction of the Church was started relatively recently – in 1883. Most of the project was designed by the famous architect Milan Karlovaca, but the construction was attended by several other architects. The Church of St. Michael the Archangel was completed by 1911, the same year it was consecrated.

Church size is quite small, but it attracts the attention of artists and tourists that its appearance demonstrates a mixture of several architectural styles: Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic, and the consequences of Islamic influence.

The exterior is no less impressive than the outside. The Church is famous iconostasis, made by master Belinicher, a native of split. The main material he used – marble of Italian origin. In the temple there are also several icons, painted by the famous Czech artist on Frange of Sigler.
