Herceg Novi is located literally next to the airport of Tivat, a little further from the city is Dubrovnik, and even further to 114 kilometers to Podgorica.
Date of Foundation of the city – 1382. Originally Bosnian ruler Tvrtko I called it the Light of Stefan. One hundred years after the founding, the city was conquered by the Turks, the Board lasted until 1682. In addition, Herceg Novi managed to get in the hands of the Spaniards from 1538 to 1539. With 1688 Herceg Novi became the property of the Venetians, which has included the city in the composition of the lands of Albania Veneta".
After the reign of the Venetians in Herceg Novi crossed the Austro-Hungarian Empire, control over the city which lasted until 1806. Then the city during the year, the rule of the Russian Empire, after which the city was taken over by the French from 1807 through 1813. Then the power was again in the hands of Austria-Hungary until 1918. Later in the XX century the city became part of the now defunct Yugoslavia. Today they once again flying the flag of Montenegro.
Old town in Herceg Novi is his heart and soul, where there are ancient buildings and monasteries. Some buildings remained even after surviving the earthquake, while others were reconstructed using modern materials.
