Easiest way to this small mining town to get from Jihlava. Bus service there is also Prague.
Havlickuv Brod was formerly known as the German Ford due to the fact that there was settled primarily by the Germans who were the real masters of mining and helped the Czechs to master difficult science of extraction of ore and silver. The Germans were invited to a village on the river sázava from the Saxony. The first settlers got here with my household in the XIII century.
The modern name of the town was in honor of a native of this area, a journalist who lived and worked in the first half of the nineteenth century by Karel Havlicek Borovsky. He was a patriot, who took a dislike to the Austrian authorities. Similar to the situation in which a democratically-minded Czechs and the government formed after the Second world war. It was at that time and it was decided to rename the town in honor of K. G. Borovsky. On the square Havlickova the town has a Museum dedicated to the famous son of Havlickuv Brod.
The main area is no different large dimensions. But that's it concentrated the most important city attractions. These include two town halls, one over another for almost two centuries. Church of the ascension of the virgin Mary is relatively new: it was built in the XVII century on the site of an earlier building, affected by fire. To this same period belongs the Augustinian monastery, which adjoins the Church of St. Anthony.
Another interesting architectural monument located on the next street. This house dated back to the XVI century, called Steflova cottage.
