In the southern part of Hobart is one of the most popular attractions - Estate "ranked". Built in 1837, this historic building now attracts hundreds of tourists. Two-storey elegant bungalows facing urban area new town, is a beautiful example of colonial architecture. The home has a lovely garden, full of flowers and trees, some of which have more than one hundred years. Here you can see the fruit trees and the amazing beauty of the rose, fuchsia, hellebore and various bulbous plants.
The farmstead "randomid" was built for Robert Pitcairn, the lawyer, who played in the early 19th century an important role in the campaign against the deportation of prisoners from England to Australia. In those days the estate was known as the House of Cairne. In 1850 settled here first in Tasmania's Anglican Bishop Francis Nixon, who added to the house music halls – they held religious services and other events. Then, in 1864, the house became the property of captain Charles Bailey. He changed the name of his home with "house of Cairne" with "ranked" in honor of the ship that once sailed. The Bailey family lived in the estate for over 100 years – only in 1967, the Tasmanian government bought the house and donated it to the National Trust property involved in the preservation of historical monuments. Immediately began extensive restoration work, which resulted in the building was returned to his form of the early 19th century.
Today in the estate "randomid" keeps a rich collection of objects related to seafaring and whaling, as well as works of art, owned by the Bailey family, and some of the things Bishop Francis Nixon. Of particular interest is the collection of the thread on the sinks.
