Tower "Shot tower" is one of the most famous historic buildings of Tasmania near Hobart. It is located 11 km from the state capital in the town of Tarun. Built in 1870, an immigrant from Scotland Joseph Moire, the tower is 48 meters high and 10 meters in diameter at its base. Within four years after construction it was the tallest building in Australia, and in Tasmania she kept this honorary status for over 100 years! I wonder the purpose of the tower: with its top through a sieve missed molten lead, which fell into the water at the foot and thus lead turned into a fraction.
The current owners of the tower are the heirs of Joseph Moire, which turned it into a popular tourist attraction. Many are willing to overcome the 300 steps to the top so that we could all enjoy, but at the same time breath-taking views of the estuary of the Derwent. On the ground floor of the tower is a small Museum where you can learn the history of the family Moire and obtain information about the production process of lead bullets in the 19th century. Next to the Museum has a souvenir shop and café. And around the tower has a beautiful garden where you can wander around, enjoying the peace and tranquility of the surrounding nature.
