Gratcheva the cave is located seven kilometres from the Jelsa in the South of the island of Hvar, near pastoral herding villages of Homes. This place has been abandoned for years, the atmosphere will return everyone back to the 15th century. From here you have stunning views over the sea surface.
Access to the cave is not the easiest, but all the effort is worth it: Gracheva cave is a unique phenomenon, Dating from the Neolithic period (2, 5 thousand years BC), the oldest discovery in the region. It is located at 239 meters above the sea level. The cave exploration was engaged to a Croatian historian and archaeologist Grga Novak.
Gratcheva the cave has two rooms, the first input has the approximate dimensions of 13 meters by 5 meters, the second larger than 23 meters in 22. It is surrounded by small chambers. A large number of stalactites and stalagmites form a fascinating spectacle, especially with a lighted candle.
In Graceway the cave were found the remains of a sailing boat, this is the first finding relating to Hvar culture (3900-3300 years BC). Also in the town of Hvar in the archaeological Museum are ancient copies of weapons and various tools which include flint knives, arrows, hammer, pottery, and bones of animals and people found in Graceway the cave.
In 1964, the cave was declared a protected state natural monument. It is open for tourist visits, excursions organized by the Association "Humus" in Hvar. In the village there is a restaurant "Homes", where you can also get a key from the small Museum located in the Church. Usually departure to Grabtsevo the cave is from the door of the restaurant.
